You would be amazed at what YOU can do to fix issues you may have with your hardware and/or software. USE Youtube and/or web searches (e.g., Google browser searches) on how to fix computer/system issues you may encounter. It can save you time and money. In many cases, I do NOT recommend downloading any software to fix your issues some sites recommend. They tend to install unwanted "other" software (malware).
I ONLY recommend using Microsoft's built-in (free!) anti-virus program: "Windows Security" (aka Windows Defender). Using both Malwarebytes and Microsoft's built-in anti-virus software, in my professional opinion, provides you the best protection available (today that is!!!!).
This is the MOST IMPORTANT recommended tip I can provide you - Purchase / subscribe to Malwarebytes anti-malware software - NOW! https://www.Malwarebytes.com/home This is the best tool I can recommend for you to fight against malicious, unwanted attacks on your computer.
The rates are very reasonable. Selecting the 2-year subscription (credit card) offers a very good discount. And, the more PCs you buy the license for, the more discount you get!
There are several options for cloud storage -- my personal favorite is using Carbonite.com. Key here is we are human and do not always backup our important files. See "Backup" versus "Disaster Recovery" below
Conducting backups is essential for continuity of your files. I recommend using an external hard drive, or, if you have a second internal hard drive, use it for data backup. There are several inexpensive programs to help manage (and automate) your backups. I recommend Handybackup.net's standard backup tool. You can configure what is backed up, where, and when.
How important are your files to you? Disaster recovery is the advanced version of "Backups". The basic difference here is "where" your backups are going to and where you can get them back from. Think of it this way: if your facility burns down and you only have a flash drive/external hard drive connected to your computer for backups, you lose it all -- you have no files to recover - period. Solution: use cloud storage such as Carbonite.com
Another solution is taking your backups created on a flash drive/backup drive, etc., outside your office or home -- on a daily basis!!!
No matter how convincing, DO NOT CALL any phone number that pops up on your computer indicating you have a problem. If you cannot get the pop-up closed, then shut down and restart your computer even if you have to force it off by holding in the power on/off button. ALSO -- DO NOT EVER allow anyone remote access to your computer - EVER! Exception: an IT support business you trust.
